Scope of Work
A new flat liquid roofing system to a new-build property at Farm Lane, Shurdington, for Passiframe. Cold roof construction, designed to the architect’s specification, using the Polyroof Protec liquid system for its durability, seamless finish and long-term waterproofing performance.
- Self-adhesive Polyroof carrier layer installed directly onto the prepared timber deck
- Full Polyroof Protec liquid system applied to manufacturer’s installation guidelines
- Pre-formed 100mm drip trims fixed along all roof edges for effective water discharge
- Black pigmented Protec finish to the perimeter forming a defined border, as specified by the client

Challenges & Constraints
Built to the drawing
This was new-build work to an architect’s specification, so the detailing had to match the drawing rather than answer a defect on an existing roof.
A visible finish
The roof is part of a designed building, so the finished appearance was as much a requirement as the waterproofing.
Cold roof construction
The system had to be laid as part of a new cold roof build-up onto a prepared timber deck.
Project Execution & Techniques
Carrier layer to deck
A self-adhesive Polyroof carrier layer was installed directly onto the prepared timber deck.
Protec to guidelines
The full Polyroof Protec liquid system was applied in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation guidelines.
Pre-formed drip trims
Pre-formed 100mm drip trims were fixed along all roof edges to discharge water clear of the building.
Black pigmented border
The client’s requested perimeter border was produced in a black pigmented Protec finish rather than approximated, the sort of detail architects notice.
Outcome & Long-Term Benefits
Seamless waterproofing
The finished roof is a seamless liquid system with no laps and no mechanical fixings through the deck.
Detail as specified
The client-specified black pigmented perimeter reads as a defined border rather than an edge that was tidied up.
Built to specification
The roof was delivered to the architect’s specification and to Polyroof’s installation guidelines.
A repeat client
Passiframe came back to MLG and to Polyroof for The Cottage.
Conclusion
New-build roofing is a different discipline to repair work. The roof is part of a designed building, the detailing has to match the drawing, and the finish is seen. At Farm Lane, Shurdington, MLG laid a new flat liquid roof to a cold roof construction for Passiframe, using the Polyroof Protec system for its durability and seamless finish.
The carrier layer went straight onto the prepared timber deck, the Protec system was applied to manufacturer guidelines, drip trims were pre-formed to every edge, and the perimeter border the client asked for was produced in a black pigmented finish rather than approximated. Passiframe returned to MLG and Polyroof for their next project.
