Leaving more behind than the work itself

As a family business rooted in our communities, we measure success by more than the buildings we deliver, by the people we train, the causes we support and the footprint we leave.

Our social value commitment

Most of our people live within an hour of the jobs they work on, and that shapes how we think about social value. Every year we take on new apprentices, sponsor grassroots sport from Chipping Sodbury to Caerphilly, and give 1% of our profit to a charity our team chooses. We hire local, buy local where we can, and run the business against a Net Zero 2040 plan, so what we put back lands in the places our people call home.

Skills, training and apprenticeships

Training the next generation

Apprenticeships

Bringing the next generation through is one of the reasons this business exists. More than 20 engineers have started out with MLG training and opportunities, many are still with us today. Six apprentices are training right now, and we aim to take on three more every year.

Training spend

Over £200,000 a year invested in training, from apprentices to directors, every level of the business improves.

Local opportunity

We prioritise local labour and local suppliers, and we open the door early, with three or four one-week work placements each year for local 15 and 16-year-olds, many going on to start an apprenticeship. Of the people we’ve trained, over 95% are still with the business.

Environmental responsibility

Building sustainably

Waste

Waste separated, recycled and diverted from landfill at every opportunity, 80% today, targeting 100% by 2030.

Carbon

A Carbon Reduction Plan with a Net Zero target of 2040. Our head office runs on a 50kW solar array covering 100% of its electricity, around 11 tonnes of CO₂ a year, with solar-powered EV charging on site.

Fleet

Company cars are hybrid or electric, vans transitioning as the right models arrive, and AI-driven route optimisation cuts unnecessary mileage.

Community investment

Putting something back

01
Local sports

We support local teams and sporting opportunities. The four we sponsor are Chipping Sodbury RFC, Thornbury RFC, Almondsbury FC (under-11s and under-12s) and Caerphilly Athletic FC in South Wales.

02
Our team's charity

Each year our team votes for a charity to support, focused on helping young people into the workforce. We donate 1% of our profit every year, and the team gets behind the cause beyond the money, with fundraising and volunteering through the year.

03
Our people, recognised

Our people are recognised for how they work, including national awards for safety and work ethic won by our operatives on one of Britain’s busiest stations. Inside the business, monthly awards recognise safety, quality and driving.

A safety-led culture

Everyone goes home safe, every day, the first of our three values, and the one that can’t be traded against programme or cost. Anyone on an MLG site can stop a job, whatever their job title and with no comeback afterwards. Our work makes buildings safer, more accessible and fit for the long term.

Social value on your project?

If your tender scores social value, we can evidence ours, apprentices, local spend, community support and the records behind them.
