Scope of Work
A 55 m² flat roof overlay above the café at Warminster Station for Great Western Railway, replacing a failed mineral felt membrane that had trapped water beneath it.

Water in the build-up
The failed mineral felt membrane had trapped water beneath it, and an overlay applied onto a wet deck fails.
Asbestos next door
An adjoining asbestos roof sat alongside the work area, with a hard rule that no works would be undertaken on it or directly adjacent to it.
Deck condition unknown
Whether the deck beneath the felt was sound enough to overlay could not be assumed before the trapped water was removed.
Project Execution & Techniques
Drained and vacuumed
Holes were cut in the existing membrane to drain the trapped water, then a wet vacuum system was used to remove the excess before anything was applied.
Primed and trimmed
Polyroof DP primer was applied to the existing mineral felt membrane and new Polyroof drip trims were installed for correct detailing.
Protec across 55 m²
Polyroof Protec waterproofing was applied across the full 55 m² of the café roof.
Access built first
A fixed tower scaffold and edge protection were erected for safe working at height above the station café.
Outcome & Long-Term Benefits
A drained deck first
The trapped water was drained and extracted before the overlay went on, so the new system was applied to a dry deck rather than over a wet one.
Priced with a caveat
The works were priced with a clear caveat that further uplift would be required if the deck proved porous or unsuitable for overlay, rather than quoting a figure that could not hold.
One manufacturer throughout
Primer, drip trims and waterproofing were all Polyroof, installed by a Polyroof approved installer, so the roof is a single system rather than an assembly of equivalents.
Asbestos left untouched
The adjoining asbestos roof was treated as a hard boundary, not a judgement call on the day, and nothing was carried out on or directly adjacent to it.
Conclusion
The café roof at Warminster Station was 55 m² of failed mineral felt with water trapped in the build-up, next to an adjoining asbestos roof. Both facts shaped the job: an overlay onto a wet deck does not last, and the asbestos boundary was a line the works would not cross.
MLG cut and drained the trapped water, wet-vacuumed out the excess, primed the existing membrane with Polyroof DP, fitted new drip trims and applied Polyroof Protec across the full area, working from a fixed tower scaffold with edge protection. The £24,982 quote carried an honest caveat that uplift would be needed if the deck proved porous, the alternative being a lower number that would not have survived contact with the roof.
