Scope of Work
The roof sits directly above live rail infrastructure, so every shift was a night shift. MLG installed a liquid roofing overlay to the existing roof at Paddington for Taziker.
- Self-adhesive Polyroof carrier layer installed directly onto the existing roof structure

- Pre-formed 100mm drip trims to lower roof edges forming neat terminations into the gutter

Challenges & Constraints
Above a live railway
The roof sits directly above live rail infrastructure at one of the busiest stations in the country, with no possibility of dropping anything onto the railway below.
Nights only
Because of what runs underneath, every shift was a night shift.
Had to look heritage
The finished roof had to sit visually alongside the surrounding heritage buildings rather than stand out as a modern intervention.
Project Execution & Techniques
Cold-applied liquid system
A liquid system was chosen because it is applied cold, no hot works above an operational railway, and no mechanical fixings through the deck.
Overlaid, not stripped
A self-adhesive Polyroof carrier layer was installed directly onto the existing roof structure, then the full Polyroof Protec system applied to manufacturer’s guidelines, so no strip-out was needed.
Trims into the gutter
Pre-formed 100mm drip trims were fitted to the lower roof edges, forming neat terminations into the gutter.
Quartz aggregate finish
A quartz aggregate finish was applied to the final coat so the completed roof reads as traditional roofing felt from the surrounding elevations.
Outcome & Long-Term Benefits
Seamless waterproofing
The roof is a seamless overlay with no laps and nothing fixed mechanically through the deck.
Railway undisturbed
All works were delivered on night shift above operational rail infrastructure.
Matches its surroundings
The quartz finish means the new roof matches the appearance of the buildings around it rather than reading as a modern addition.
Installed under approval
The Polyroof Protec system was installed by a Polyroof approved installer, in strict accordance with the manufacturer specification.
